Street sweeping and line painting begin this week
Watch for posted signage and wet paint. Parking restrictions in effect during street sweeping
Street sweeping and line painting get underway this week, with crews working across the region to refresh road markings and clear debris from streets. To support safe and efficient work, drivers are reminded to follow posted signage and use extra caution around equipment and crews.
Fresh line painting in progress
To minimize disruption, line painting is typically completed in the evenings and overnight, but there may still be lane closures and slow-moving traffic.
Avoid changing lanes and crossing freshly painted lines whenever possible, as wet paint can stick to tires and affect the quality of the markings. All scheduled line painting is expected to be completed by early June, weather permitting.
Work is scheduled for the following roads in the coming days:

Street Sweeping begins
Street sweeping is underway on bus routes and high-traffic streets and will continue on priority routes with the posting of temporary no-parking signs on Thursday, May 7. Crews will then move to rural and residential streets, continuing daily until all streets are complete.
Watch for temporary no-parking signs
Temporary no-parking signs will be posted on streets in Fort McMurray that are scheduled for sweeping. Signs are posted 24 hours in advance, after which, parking bans are in effect until the signs are removed.
Move vehicles off the road to avoid getting ticketed or towed and to ensure the entire street can be cleaned safely and efficiently.
Check electronic road signs at the entrance of each neighbourhood for updates. For more information visit rmwb.ca/streetsweeping.
Street sweeping schedule
Street sweeping will be completed on priority routes by neighbourhood, currently scheduled in this order:
- Abasand/Grayling Terrace
- Dickinsfield
- Wood Buffalo
- Thickwood
- Prairie Creek
- Beacon Hill
- Downtown
- Waterways
- Timberlea
Once priority routes are complete, residential streets will follow the same order of neighbourhoods as above.
Residential street sweeping is expected to be completed by mid-late June. Timelines are subject to change due to weather, on-street parking compliance and other unforeseen circumstances.
Street sweeping in rural communities
Rural street sweeping is expected to begin by mid-May, depending on weather and road conditions. There will be no parking bans in place during rural residential street sweeping.
For everyone’s safety, please follow all posted signage, do not approach operators and keep a safe distance from equipment, as dust may reduce visibility.
